I'm Homeless

Today, I turned in my 30 days notice to my landlord. At the end of July, I will be officially homeless. I have crazy plans to buy a camper van and live in it for the unforeseen future, but the most ridiculous part is I haven't even bought the van yet. I really am going to be homeless.
Luckily, I have a kind-hearted friend that's letting me crash at her place until I get my shit together. I really thought I would have my shit together by 30, but who really ever does? It'll be a temporary solution until I'm able to hit the road in September.
Maybe, I should back up a little bit and explain why I decided to live in a van. I guess my story starts like so many epic tales (and every good song ever written), with heartbreak.
I've never been a bear, but I think that coming out of a long-term relationship is probably a lot like coming out of hibernation. It's really confusing, scary, cold, and your eyes haven't adjusted to the light yet so you're totally disorientated.
But then slowly but surely, your eyes start to adjust to life outside the relationship cave. You miss the cave, because it was comfortable, safe, and there was lots of Netflix in there. As your eyes adjust, however, you are treated to a whole new world of possibilities. There are new places to explore and a million frightening opportunities to pursue. As my eyes started to adjust from my cave, I started to realize that while I wouldn't have the comfort of the cave anymore -- I did have one big advantage -- freedom.
I'd always dreamed of traveling the country in an RV. Because of technology and my job, that dream is an easily attainable reality now. So, here I go. The name “Over My Laptop” is a reference to the scenery I’ll be looking at while working on the road. I’ll be sharing photos “over my laptop” as much as I can. To start it off, here’s a post-thunderstorm sunset behind my laptop in my Des Moines, IA apt. It has been my backdrop for the past four years and it’s bittersweet to leave. I will be posting on this blog as a regular basis as well as posting to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Keep up with me through the buttons on the right.
